Battery technology is ages old (ancient Greeks had it). Chemistry is well known as is necessary care. Lead-acid battery can last 10-yrs with regular desulfating. It's secret auto-industry has been hiding to make more profits from battery sales.

There are smart chargers that have de-sulfation cycles where it tickles high-voltage +30v sine/square-wave pulses at high-frequency 1-20khz with low amperage through. Need to get over minimum activation energy to dissolve lead sulfate crystals back into solution.

With monthly desulfating, batteries in my autos are reaching 10-yrs as well as 3 on my bikes.
