Update:
Charged battery fully overnight. Re-installed it this morning and everything seemed fine, except neither hi or low beam worked, and the high beam dash light does not work either.
Drove it to work but it is obvious that the batter is losing power again (tacho stopped working and indicators are dim).
WTF is going on here?
