you could try. it just needs to be strong enough to form a seal for the vacuum. be aware that gas does not let silicone adhere very well, so you might have some issues getting it to stick in that environment.
if I were you, I'd stick to repair methods that have already been proven to work, unless you enjoy experimenting.
