If it's still blowing black smoke, something is dumping too much fuel into the engine, and it's not just Seafoam. It probably doesn't want to keep running for that reason. That also explains why it won't restart when it quits running... it's flooded. I would tackle one problem at a time. Fix the carburetor problem that's flooding it and get it running right before trying to diagnose a possible charging problem.
Keep an eye on the crankcase oil level in case there's so much gasoline going in that it's getting into the oil.
