I can't think of anything except the carbs, or fuel delivery problems, that would cause the issues you are having.
Something isn't right with the carbs. If the plugs are now dry, it suggests (to me) that fuel isn't making it up from the float bowl to the venturi.
Did you try any of the tests I suggested, to see how it reacts?
