Karts are a hoot - buy cycles are more fun!

I raced karts for years, then changed to cycles. Always felt more in-control on a cycle. Crashing a kart sucks more than a cycle (unless you high-side) as you can easily get a sort of "ejection seat" action, which leads to landing on your head and breaking your collarbone...

A 100cc Yamaha sprint kart will do about 90 mph when geared for a huge track (like RA) - but it feels faster when you are an inch off the ground. Acceleration is SLOW, but once it's rolling and the slicks are hot you don't slow much for the corners.

A 250cc Rotax 2-stroke 6-speed "Superkart" runs about 140 to 160 mph or more on the same track. A Ninja 250 engine would be a bit too big and heavy, and would kill the handling. A typical 125cc "shifter kart" is plenty to handle on most tracks.

EDIT: Sorry, got a bit OT there... Girls in karts rock too, and there were some pretty good female drivers. Danica Patrick was a kart racer (and WI native), and obviously a pretty good one too.
