Clutch issues

To;dr: clutch suddenly has no tension

Hello,

While riding home from work I went to downshift and pulled the clutch in with no resistance. I was unable to shift down and managed to pull off to the side and stalled. I crudely managed to get it into first but it would stall without any revs.

I can pull the clutch in and it doesn’t “spring” back out. It just kinda sits there. I can easily push it out.

Luckily I was close to a bike shop— managed to get there in first gear, told them what happened, they looked at it and came back out telling me it was a simple cable adjustment. They said “something like that should’ve been adjusted last time you were here” (I brought the bike in a few months prior) and proceeded in charging me $20. I was just happy it was fixed.

I left and as soon as I got a few blocks away, same thing happened. I managed to drift and force downshift to first and stalled out on the side of the road. I was close to home and walked it the rest of the way.

I’m not sure what to do an am not mechanically inclined. The cable from what I can tell is fine? I don’t know what to do. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.
