trouble starting...

So I take the bike to the gym about a 5 min ride, workout for about 2hrs and come back and the bike won't start. I guess I should point out it was about 99-102 degrees outside... Anyways I tried full choke and lower increments of choke, still didn't start. Then finally I hit the starter and immediately give it full throttle, the engine hesitated but started and kept constant rpms. What happened? I mean I leave my bike in the garage for more than a day and it starts up with no choke, why did not start after only 2hrs? Also is it bad for the bike to start it the way I did?
