If I remember correctly, all you have to do is take out the huge button head screw holding it in. You will then have to remove the other half of the shift linkage by taking the cotter pin/screw all the way out, and sliding it off the splined shaft. You can take apart the linkage, but if you're shifting is fine, I'd take the whole thing off.
