I think we need pics... My guess is he is referring to the part that touches your foot. If that is true, take the shifter off the bike put it into a vice and pound it back with a sledge hammer. Its pretty simple to take the shifter off. Its just an allen wrench to take the pivot bolt off. Then back off the set nut on the linkage arm and rotate the shifer off of the linkage arm.
