Is there a non-interstate route available? I virtually NEVER take the interstate, just because it's so boring. Unless I'm super pressed for time, I would rather ride 3-4 hours on minimally interesting roads than 2 hours in a straight line at 70mph.

+1 on the tire plug kit. I haven't had to use it yet (knock on wood), but it goes in the tail pack anytime I'm traveling very far at all.

Good luck and have fun!

Edit: Oh, to answer your question, I used to 'commute' on my pregen from SC to DC fairly regularly. I-95 for 500 miles, yuck. I would often break it into two days, just because it is SO boring, and 7-85mph is SO exhausting if you're not used to it. I would get off my bike, crawl into bed and sleep for 3 hours before I could do anything else!
