yeah i dont expect all riders to split, it's a different type of risk we take and it usually ends up as our fault if we crash vs. being the victim of a rear ending. I follow the CHP guidelines and dont split when traffic's moving above 30 (my splitting speed tops out at 40). I also cover both brakes when i'm between lanes.
if i had foam on both sides i would've tried having both feet up 
just didnt like the idea of giving my insurance to two people. 
Looking back at it, it was an necessary risk. i think it was the boat above my head that made me want to get out in front.
