Hhahhahaha!!! Was probably corrosion on contacts in brake-lever switch. All that squeezing probably rubbed off corrosion and it worked again!
Good job on clearing out bubbles! Yeah, that's awfully messy. Hopefully brake-fluid didn't get into any critical areas. Only thing I'd worry about is fork-seals.
