I'll take the liberty of speaking for him. No, no joke. I think its actually quite funny that you thought it was a joke. I dont answer the door with a firearm as a habit. But certain times, when something just doesnt feel right, I will open the door with a Glock 19 in my hand, tucked behind my back/thigh. You know, just to ensure all parties mind their manners and p's and q's.
