Similarly, I once had the the linkage arm on the shifter "adjust" itself due to the vibrations. I didn't loose any parts, but the shifter moved so far down that I couldn't downshift (discovered this at a light). Punishing my clutch got me into a parking lot with 2nd gear. The crappy toolkit actually came in handy, as re-tightened the nuts and headed home. Blue locktite now, baby! No problems since.
