I actually had this thought this morning...
I took a closer look at the socket and the outer most pin had moved out of position, it looks like depending on how the bulb is inserted the pin can contact the outer wall and short. I forced the pin down further into the base and everything is working again. I'll give it a few days to see if anything else pops up and then replace the socket just to be safe.
