No, it's not worth the risk. Even after the snow has stopped falling there's going to be a lot of gravel and sand left over until the DPW sweeps it all up in mid-spring. This is the beginning of the most dangerous season for new riders. Don't be in such a hurry to ride that you ignore the potential risks of hitting a large patch of sand & gravel. It will still be everywhere on the roads for a while and it
will take you down.
