[offtopic] I call those "dammit screws." They're wretched little fasteners that have a tendency to take off like houseflies just as you try to pick them up, causing you to say "dammit."

They're closely related to the "Jesus spring." That's the hidden item under compression inside every device, which when liberated through disassembly flies through the air, startling you and causing you to take Lord's name in vain.

There's also the Verithing(tm), which is any odd widget that, when you spot it in a store, exactly fills a need -- especially an odd McGyver-esque need for which it was not designed and that cannot be met by any other item. This causes you to say "Ah! The very thing!"
