The durometer will not tell you if they are the same compound. It only tells you their relative hardness at the time (and temperature) that you measured them at.
Durometer is not directly related to grip either. Generally the more race-oriented a tire is, the narrower the temperature range at which you get the optimal grip. Of course tires get softer with increased temperature, but that doesn't mean a softer has more grip than one that isn't as soft.
Try thinking about it this way: If softness is the ultimate factor in providing maximum grip then we aren't going to get any softer than rubber that is so hot that it melts. As far as I know melted rubber has very little grip.
To sum it up: Don't get hung up on measuring durometer as an indicator of grip.
