That doesn't sound stupid. It sounds silly and silly is good.
Now what would have been stupid is if any combination of you 4 had tried to race each other when the light turned green.
As for my own story...I was gearing up to leave school late one night. A guy walks by and asks "Is that thing fast?" I considered explaining to him what a 250 was but he wasn't interested in a conversation and continued to walk past the bike. In retrospect I think I should have just told him it's a motorcycle.
