If the threads are messed up, the Stat-O-Seal I mentioned will seal with way less torque than a crush washer, and might avoid stripping the threads trying to seal it.

OOOH! I like that! I need to get me one of those =) I have been known to torque my oil pan bolt using the german torque standard. (goodentight)
