Kawasaki and Yamaha: new 250 supersports coming soon

June 27, 2019 - News arrives from Japan of a new super-sports car Kawasaki 250 with a four-cylinder engine. And someone assumes the arrival of a three-cylinder Yamaha of similar displacement. It will be like this?

For days circulating the anticipation of a new and very sporty four-cylinder Kawasaki 250, now we also assume the possible response of Yamaha with a three-cylinder engine of the same displacement.

Science fiction? True, the times are no longer the propitious times of the Eighties and Nineties, when the small and very fractional four-stroke Japanese sports cars were produced - of 250 and 400 cc - capable of exalting youngsters from all over the world (but satisfied, however, few); but how do you dismiss a dream mortifying it with the reasoning on the limitations of international regulations like our Euro 5?
We say that a turnaround of this magnitude does not seem so probable, we add that today we are traveling in the direction of containing costs and not towards the complications of such complex and miniaturized architectures. But we also say that, if it were true, it would be a beauty. And a very interesting technical clash between Kawasaki and Yamaha would also emerge.

It was the Japanese magazine Young Machine that anticipated (on the cover!) The first render of the small Kawa: a ZX-25R directly inspired by the thousand, a very high hypersport - nothing to do with the sports cars we know, like the Ninja 250 R production output in 2013 - which could have a very refined chassis and a scooter capable of delivering about sixty horses at a speed of around 20,000 rpm.

It is very probable that the authors of the scoop have worked a great deal of imagination, to illustrate also many details such as the trellis frame and the radial calipers, but it must be said that in the past this head has often gone very close to reality, and if we believe the voice of a small sportswear of this kind is perfectly logical to draw on the technical and stylistic heritage of the big sisters already in circulation.

Then it was the turn of the Spaniards of Soymotero.net, among the first to talk about a YZF-R25 that would be born in Iwata: this time with three cylinders, 16,000 rpm maximum rotation.
According to the rumors, Yamaha designers would devote themselves for years to technical experiments of this level, not necessarily with the objective of production; but in this case, with the circulation of the Kawasaki initiative, the urge to accelerate to arrive at a concrete project, in space, it is said, of two years would be born.
