It's not that difficult if you take your time. You will also need a set of micrometers, NOT calipers, to measure the old shims so you know what size you need.

As many people will poo poo them, the set from Harbor Freight are cheap and work just fine. I have checked them against my Mitutoyo's and found them to be just as accurate.
