The EX500 comes with unusually soft springs, and I'm a bigger guy, so I completely agree with your sentiments. A cheap shock like from the NewGen/300 is basically just a respring in this case, but it's amazing to swap from something way off to something with the right spring rate. I went further (because I like to tinker), but just dropping in fork springs and a NewGen shock removed mushiness in corners while doing a better job absorbing bumps too.
