Awesome, thanks guys. I'm planning a trip to a bike shop this weekend, as I'll need a place to go for service, and I would like to try some of this stuff on in person. I'm all about spending less for gear if I can, I just want to make sure I'm covered...literally.
As for my rides, I imagine they'll be on the shorter side at first, until I get comfortable. I'll plan on sunny days only, but of course I'll have to deal with the unexpected rainstorm every now and then. I plan to ride slooooowly to start, but at the same time, I'm sure that my risk of a fall is much higher when I'm learning, so I'm a bit torn as far as how much protection I'd need. This is a great start though, and I really appreciate the advice.
