Squint and it's not hard to image it with some more clothes on

WE’VE just heard a rumour from India that the BMW G 310 R also exists as a fully-faired sportsbike built by Indian manufacturer TVS under the codename ‘U69’ and that it'll be unveiled next month.

Word from India says that TVS has used the G 310 R to create a small-capacity, fully-faired sibling sportsbike with different ergonomics plus slightly different engine tune and gear ratios. There is speculation that the bike will be displayed at the Auto Expo in Delhi at the start of February.

BMW and TVS already have a manufacturing and technology sharing partnership that will see the 313cc single-cylinder G 310 R built in India by TVS. Until now it was expected that TVS would use the G 310 R platform to create a naked bike not too dissimilar from the BMW it’s based on.

Currently there has't been any official confirmation of the rumoured U69 sportsbike project. If it turns out to be true, it’s possible that through the BMW-TVS partnership, we could get something similar from BMW for the European market to put BMW in direct competition with bikes like the Yamaha R3, KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300, as well as their naked counterparts the recently-unveiled MT-03, 390 Duke and Z300.
