I know a guy who just picked up a old school Ninja 250 this last summer, but it wasn't as advertised and I have been helping him getting it sorted out. Another buddy of mine has a TU 250, and we have ridden a fair bit.
Have to be a bit careful, the best roads around here if you like twisties are probably 66 and Dead Indian/Clover Creek (I know some more though that are crazy good when you are up for day rides).
I usually ride year around, as I have good cold weather riding gear. The only thing that shuts me down is snow/ice on the roads, but you do have to start being careful since most of the fun roads are getting some sand/gravel spread on them - sigh!
This IS the time of year to look for good deals on bikes! It is totally the best time for cruising craigslist and such.
It would be cool to meet up and say hi sometime. Am certainly hoping to get more riding in the coming year!
