Most of my friends here ride R25 (smaller cc). Yes, the stock R25 / R3 is way much more faster than a ninja, but the bike handling is terrible if to compare with a ninja. Not only that, the first gen of the R25 had issues such as the oil pump and clutch pressure plates. Not sure if the model for the States has this similar problem thou.
I would suggest for the new Ninja 650 for your new upgrade. Not only the characteristics of the bike is different than the older model, the engine is also different.
