I think some of the manufacturers of the gears are claculating the ratio using the diameter of the gear and not the # of teeth.

agree with nemesis, it's all about weight savings. the difference is notable. If you spin the rear wheel with the 520 chain, you will notice that it stops shortly after that. if you spin the wheel with the 415 chain, it just goes round and round and round.
