Just got back.

The locksmith said that the wafers were fine because the lock turns freely with the key and not at all without the key. If the wafers were worn out, the key would need to be jiggled to get it to turn. He said the lock housing was bad and that I needed a new one. He would need a new lock before he could do anything. He also said that the lock housing was made from pot metal and was easily broken.

BTW, around here they have a multitude of fake "pop a lock" locksmiths out here that aren't really locksmiths and don't have a state license. I had to go through hundreds of these fakers before I found the real deal. The fakers go around with a slim jim and will get your car door open and charge you $400 - and they are incapable of re-keying or picking a lock. Real locksmiths can do pretty much anything it takes to manipulate or repair a lock.
