I have a black backpack. I use a bungy net to hold it on the seat behind me, unless it is very full and heavy (like when I had 2 laptops, my lunch and change of clothes in it) then I just put it on my back.

I'm not that concerned about having a bright back, if people aren't looking in front of them I don't care how much bright stuff you have on they aren't going to see you. Talk to a fireman, big red or lime green fire trucks with flashing lights get rear quite frequently.
