As noted - check all connections and grounds.

Check battery voltage before cranking (12.7V or more) and as you hit the button (10V or more) to confirm the battery is good.

Also check out www.ex-500.com for more 500-specific info. The starter solenoid/relay on the 500 can be an issue, so search for some troubleshooting info on that as well.
