just cut it or break it with a chain tool. i've used a dremel to grind links off before.

if you're replacing it then get a rivit tool so you have a good masterlink on there. if you don't have a rivit tool, then get it all together, put your bike in the back of the truck and go to your local MC shop and see if you can get someone to do it real quick.

you can use the clip style link, but they're not really the safest thing to use on the street.
