I know we have a thread about this going on a PreGen and Bill at http://www.watt-man.com/ says he's done several 2008+ 250s as well as a 300. So I've researched on the net as well as asked Bill via email a few more questions and he's been quick to respond and helpful. Ill try and make a DIY thread out of this when I get it installed a d a review as well.

Here's the two emails I exchanged with bill so far

Me:

I've got a 2009 ninja 250 or second generation as some call it. I have an after market instrument cluster and it with a digital temp gauge. If it's cooler then 80degs then it just sets at 140f unless I not moving. Right now in the winter it seem to fluctuate back a forth between 130 & 140. I read in a old forum post that you helped a guy design a thermo-bob for a 2007 and older first generation 250 to solve this problem. I'm not sure if my system is the same as the first gen 250 or even the KLR but I would like I little help solving my cool running problem. my bike always runs great and never needs a choke but I'm worried about running the bike at such a cool temp is causing extra wear on the motor because the clearance tolerances are loss with the metals and alloys not up to temp.

Hey Jason,

Yes, we have built a number of kits now for the newer 250... Even the 300 for 2013 has a very similar cooling system layout. I can build you a kit as soon as I get home on thursday (I'm out of town till then). You can order a ninja kit online and mention in the notes section that you have a 2009 bike, and i'll send the right kit when I return.

You say order a ninja kit online but there's no ninja kit listed so do you want me to select one of the pre-made units and list what bike I have on the notes or select the universal kit and list my bike in the notes?

I ask because of the price difference between the two, also will I be getting the 180 or 195deg model.

I ride my bike year round and it can get quite hot in the tight canyons in the summer as well as when I take it to the race track when it's 120degs.

Good point. Order a normal klr650 kit for $125 and include a note that its for a 2009 ninja. To help you with the thermostat choice I'll build it with one stat and include a stat of the other temp for free.
