Well, I guess new players to market don't have extensive engineering background or FEA computing resources of big players. When Mazda was designing their FD-generation RX-7, every engineer was tasked with reducing weight of their part by 10%. Amazing that they actually achieved that goal!
Then again, you can overdo it and become Lotus fragile!
