IMO, a 650 Ninja or SV650 could be a reasonable progression from a 300 if you've only been riding for a year. The S1000RR will be much less forgiving of new rider mistakes. A year of riding is still not much, even three or five years depending on how many miles you are putting on the bike and what conditions you have been exposed to.
