Those are awesome play bikes. Wouldn't mind having one.
Bummer about the shotty DIY maintenance. I've had a lot of very neglected used dirtbikes over the years. Some of the things i've seen or had to deal with boggles the mind. Something that is pretty easy and not that expensive to deal with and they try and save a few bucks and rig something together ect... and it causes a huge headache further down the road.
