It's a regional thing. I would never split lanes here in BC, because cagers are clueless as to its advantages, and get all bent out of shape that you are 'cutting in front of the line'. I don't agree at all with that line of thinking, but it is what people here think.

In a place like California, the majority of drivers are more used to it, and cagers don't have that attitude. Hopefully this more enlightened attitude will spread to other regions.
