I've ridden for hours on end between 80-100 MPH. The bike will be fine.

Get a used bike you can own outright for a first ride. Insurance will be cheaper and when you drop it or wad it up you're not stuck paying off a loan. You need to set aside cash for good gear (you will regret buying cheap gear) and since you've never touched a bike before I'd set aside cash for a MSF course.
