Danno's solution is probably more effective than mine, but I've used that cheapo silicone spray lube stuff that comes in an aerosol can with great success. Just put the parts in a Ziploc bag, blast it with the silicone stuff, enough to cover it, and soak it for maybe a weekend, maybe a week.

I'd also like to add that there are implications to using pod filters. It's a big long-standing, often not-so-civil debate about whether or not to use them. You can use the search function if you'd like to see all the moving parts of this discussion. I ride in the rain a lot, so that's reason enough for me to keep my airbox.
