So for racing use unsealed chain for minimum losses. For the road use an X-ring chain. No real benefit on the road to a race chain or smaller than stock size, it will just wear quicker.
Quality 520-X-ring chain & sprockets should last at least 20K miles. An old trick we used as couriers was to buy 2x front, one rear & a new chain. Front always wears quicker, so we would swap it halfway through chain life.
