I was considering getting one but got a strap-mount tank bag instead and the hardware for that serves the protection purpose when the bag is disconnected.
But did you know you can have your tank pad custom printed???
A regular old google search will get you $50 options, but there are plenty of overseas options for less.
This one is 18gbp. There was one I had found for 20ish pounds where you could preview the design, but I seem to have lost that page.
