The good thing about securing your tent to the canopy is you will know if it blows away during the night, and maybe the added ballast of your sleeping bones will help keep it on the ground.
Should add up to an interesting night if it does, just remember to relax your body when you land.
From my experience with tentage and strong wind gusts, unless its tied to an immovable object its gonna fly.
