that cable is just extra, you dont need to install it, you get the power from the other cable lead that is also included. (im sure i posted some pictures of this on a thread somewhere when i did my koso install)
the clock will keep working as long as you dont unplug that power lead. the other saved info (wheel size, magnet count, trip meter, odometer, etc) is not lost if you unplug the power, only the clock needs resetting if that happens.
