To be fair, I don't think anyone expects the outer layer to hold up to anything at all when it's normal clothing (they don't do leather or other extra heavy stuff) so the stitching on it probably doesn't matter when it'll immediately shred anyway.
I suppose the key point then would be how well the kevlar layer itself is constructed.
