It was "the thing" here in Malaysia before this... Most of the leather shops do pants alteration starting from leather, kevlar, cordura or even denims... Until the bootlegged riding jeans of Komine came in. You could get one of these at $50 rather than spending $100 for an altered pants.
Had an experience wearing mesh + cordura jacket and fell down. Didn't tear apart, speed was around 30 to 40 mph and was sliding into a ditch, so i guess it's equivalent if you are not going for 62 mph. But definitely it is safer wearing leathers and getting one fully equipped with armour besides than having altered for you.
