Yes, there are continuous attempts to try and guess the admin passwords; the trick is to make sure that the attempts are locked out soon enough to prevent access, without letting those lockouts affect legitimate users. Every time I've found a new type of log to review, I've found interesting things that I wish I'd seen earlier.
But - nobody's cash or personal information is at risk here, and we have daily backups that we can always roll back to in the worst case that everything was compromised at some point.
