Trail Tech recommends a 600K .25W resistor, and they sell a tach lead with one installed. I use one, and my tach isn't jumpy at all. I wired the red resistor wire to the bike's black tach wire and the black ground wire to the bike's accessory ground wire. All this is inside my headlight bucket.
