Carbon fiber

a) Is thin and will grind away almost instantly... the point of case covers is to avoid abrasion damage to your engine cases in a slide. That's why the proper metal ones are so thick.
b) Can shatter under the right circumstances, leaving needle-sharp debris in its wake (unlikely for a piece like this, though)

Carbon looks cool and is light, but is not particularly abrasion-resistant.
