It should be obvious, but just in case, keep in mind that up until now, people who were voting thought it was anonymous. I considered wiping out all thumb votes before making this change, but I thought that would be worse than leaving them up.
I guess my hope is that the level of butt-hurtedness that some of us might feel by how past votes were cast for us, is manageable enough without taking that butt-hurtedness to a new level now that this change has been made. Going forward, I think that the voting will still be a useful feature, even if the voting behavior might change slightly now that the recipient can see more info about each thumb.
